Chris Pratt spilled his coffee on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 costar Pom Klementieff’s expensive purse, and she started bawling — but the tears were for a different reason.
According to Insider, during a GotG: Vol. 3 press conference, director James Gunn recalled an incident on a plane that involved Chris, Pom, a cup of coffee, and a puppy purse.
Just before the plane took off, Chris, who plays Peter Quill/Star-Lord, brought a cup of coffee onboard. “Chris is a clumsy oaf,” James said. “He doesn’t put his coffee in the cup holder. He puts it on the armrest.”

At the same time, Pom, who plays Mantis, brought her purse on board which was apparently receiving lots of compliments throughout the week. “It’s a very cool purse that happens to be very expensive,” she added.
“The plane takes off and, you know, planes. Chris has maybe never been on one,” James joked. “He doesn’t realize that sometimes planes tilt in different directions.”
“His coffee slid down and fell all over Pom’s expensive, beautiful purse that we’ve all been complimenting for a week, and Pom’s a little irritated with Chris, as she should be.”
“We clean it up, and then we’re flying for another, I don’t know, maybe, 10 minutes. And all of a sudden, I’m sorry to embarrass you, all of a sudden Pom bursts into tears, and she goes, ‘I’m so sad,'” James continued.
“Chris and I look at each other and go, ‘You really screwed up,'” James said.
Even though Pom and her castmates never described what the purse looked like, there’s a good chance that this $2,500 Thom Browne shoulder bag was seen around the time of the South Korea premiere of GotG Vol. 3.

The gag is Pom’s crying wasn’t actually about the coffee spill on the purse. “We thought she was sad about her purse getting wet,” James revealed. “And then she said, ‘I feel like something is ending.'”
Pom was actually upset they were reaching the end of their time together for GotG: Vol. 3. The third film could be James Gunn’s final Guardians movie since he’s now the co-CEO of DC Studios.
“It’s funny because I wanted to hide in the bathroom and cry,” Pom said. “Sometimes, it’s like mourning. Sometimes, it just comes at unexpected moments, and you just can’t control it.”
“I couldn’t contain it, and I wanted to hide in the bathroom to cry, but Karen [Gillan] was in the bathroom,” Pom said, referring to her costar who plays Nebula. “It felt like the end of something.”
Aww. I feel that. It’s the end of a Guardians era.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is in theaters now.
